As a practicing Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have successfully worked with many types of clients, including individuals, families and couples. In addition, I have experience working with clients in a group setting. My areas of interest and skill include the prevention and treatment of substance use, aiding the healing process from abuse and trauma, as well as communication skills and assertiveness training. I am also trained in Christian/faith-based counseling and pastoral care. I firmly believe that change is possible, no matter how difficult it may seem. I look forward to joining you on this journey toward a life well-lived.
After completing my undergraduate studies at Presbyterian College, I continued my education at Union Presbyterian Seminary, obtaining a Master’s of Divinity and then attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where I earned a Master’s in Clinical Social Work. Following graduation, I began my residency for licensure. I am currently licensed by the Virginia Board of Social Work.
With respect to my training and theoretical orientation, I use an integrated approach, tailoring the intervention to my client’s needs. By setting certain conditions such as empathy and unconditional positive regard, the therapeutic relationship can foster an individual’s change process, enabling him or her to meet their personal goals. In addition, I utilize several evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Trauma-Informed Care.
